چکیده

Schema/ontology/classification matching is a critical problem in many application domains, such as, schema/ontology/classification integration, data warehouses, e-commerce, web services coordination, Semantic Web, semantic query processing, etc. We think of Match as an operator which takes two graph-like structures and produces a mapping between semantically related nodes. Semantic matching is a novel approach where semantic correspondences are discovered by computing and returning as a result, the semantic information implicitly or explicitly codified in the labels of nodes and arcs. At present, the semantic matching approach is limited to the case of tree-like structures e.g., classifications, taxonomies, etc. The main focus of this PhD thesis, supervised by Prof. Fausto Giunchiglia is the development of the schema-based algorithm for semantic matching of treelike structures; the development of the semantic matching system implementing the algorithm; and the development of the testing methodology allowing for a comprehensive evaluation of the semantic matching systems.

An Improved Semantic Schema Matching Approach

Schema matching is a critical step in many applications, such as data warehouse loading, Online Analytical Process (OLAP), Data mining, semantic web [2] and schema integration. This task is defined for finding the semantic correspondences between elements of two schemas. Recently, schema matching has found considerable interest in both research and practice. In this paper, we present a new impr...

Evaluation of “Mosaic 1 Reading”: A Microstructural Approach to Textual Analysis of Pedagogical Materials

To analyze and evaluate textbooks, researchers have either proposed scales and checklists to be filled by teachers and learners or conducted qualitative investigations of the match between SLA theories and textbook activities. This study, however, employs the microstructural approach of schema theory to scrutinize the reading passages of “Mosaic 1 Reading”. To this end, 17 passages of the textb...

Management of Xml Data by Means of Schema Matching

The eXtensible Markup Language (XML) has emerged as a de facto standard to represent and exchange information among various applications on the Web and within organizations due to XML’s inherent data self-describing capability and flexibility of organizing data. As a result, the number of available (heterogeneous) XML data is rapidly increasing, and the need for developing high-performance tech...

An enhanced semantic VLE based on schema.org and social media

After the arrival of the web in the 1990s, educational institutions started to maintain their learning materials within Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs), as the web is a significant source of material for many students and teachers. However, there has been less development in the current VLEs in the past few years, which remain heavily centred on single institutions even though the web has ...
